In honor of World AIDS Day...
1st of December has over time become a day to commemorate the HIV/AIDS pandemic. While millions all over the world come together to talk about the different ways that are being used to fight the deadly disease, Cheusi today celebrates those who have fought and are still fighting it.
For all those single mothers who are struggling to raise their families, for all those children struggling to understand why they were born with the disease and all those people who feel they regret the circumstances that led them to where they are.
The future is in this single moment we have now…this is all we are ever sure of. I have to acknowledge all those who fight bigger battles every single day and still have a reason to smile. Today I believe that we have a lot to learn from these men and women.
In Africa alone, almost 22.4 million people were living with HIV/AIDS in 2008. In the same year, statistics showed that about 1.9 million cases were reported in this year alone.
Four years later and I marvel at the number of people who have remained strong and survived both the hardships of day to day life as well as those generated form the disease. The stigma, finances and physical destitution associated with the disease. To all our love ones; those we have lost and those who we watch being hero’s and heroines every day.
Celebrating World AIDS day…
